Bunion Surgery & LAPIPLASTY®
Modern 3D bunion correction — faster return to shoes, lasting results.
What is a Bunion?
A bunion is a bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe when the bones in the forefoot shift out of alignment. The big toe is pushed toward the other toes, and the joint protrudes outward, often causing pain, swelling, and difficulty fitting into shoes. Bunions tend to worsen progressively and rarely resolve without treatment.
LAPIPLASTY® — 3D Bunion Correction
Traditional bunion surgery (2D) cuts and shifts the bone — but often fails to correct the rotational component of the deformity, leading to recurrence. LAPIPLASTY® corrects the bunion in all three dimensions by addressing the unstable joint at the true root of the problem. This means:
- More complete deformity correction with lower recurrence rates
- Faster return to weight-bearing and regular shoes
- Titanium fixation holds the correction securely during healing
- Addresses the cause — not just the cosmetic result
When is Surgery Necessary?
Dr. Katz first explores conservative options: wider shoes, custom orthotics, padding, anti-inflammatory medications. Surgery is recommended when conservative care no longer controls pain, when the deformity significantly limits daily activity, or when the bunion is progressing rapidly. Every patient receives a thorough evaluation before any surgical recommendation is made.
